Upgrading Our Electric Grid and Ensuring Reliability and Resiliency

This grant provides federal financial assistance to demonstrate innovative approaches to transmission, storage, and distribution infrastructure to harden and enhance resilience and reliability; and to demonstrate new approaches to enhance regional grid resilience. The grant can be used to coordinate and collaborate with electric sector owners and operators—(A) to demonstrate innovative approaches to transmission, storage, and distribution infrastructure to harden and enhance resilience and reliability; and (B) to demonstrate new approaches to enhance regional grid resilience, implemented through States by public and rural electric cooperative entities on a cost-shared basis.

Air Quality Monitoring for Communities

The Enhanced Air Quality Monitoring for Communities Grant funds ambient air monitoring of pollutants of greatest concern in communities with environmental and health outcome disparities stemming from pollution and the COVID-19 pandemic. This grant will support community and local efforts to monitor their own air quality and to promote air quality monitoring partnerships between communities and tribal, state, and local governments.

Brownfields Job Training

The Brownfields Job Training Grant helps fund programs to recruit, train, and retain a local, skilled workforce by helping unemployed and underemployed residents of areas affected by the presence of brownfield sites obtain the skills and credentials needed for pathways into full-time employment in waste management and within the larger environmental field, including sustainable cleanup and reuse, and chemical safety.

People, Prosperity, and the Planet Program

The People, Prosperity, and the Planet Program, which is administered by the Environmental Protection Agency, provides public and private institutions of higher education (including eligible institutions of higher education located in U.S. territories), with the opportunity to design environmental solutions that move us towards a more sustainable future. The grant, which awards $75,000 for a two-year period, funds student teams to research, design, and implement projects focused on improving air quality, providing for clean and safe water, sustainable and healthy communities, and chemical safety.
