A Discussion on Social Capital & the Road to Repairing Our Communities
Hosted by The Futures Institute

For decades, social capital has been declining in America — and the effects of this downturn are becoming all too clear. Nationwide, millions of Americans are suffering from loneliness, dislocation, and “deaths of despair” like alcoholism, drug overdose, and suicide. And these forces are creating a downward spiral of resentment, distrust, and anger that threaten the very fabric of our democracy.
But we have solutions — and these solutions begin with us. Join the Futures Institute and a range of remarkable experts as we discuss not only what has caused this cycle of community disrepair, but also what sorts of economic policy, social policy, and community-based solutions can address these forces while building a new economy rooted in fairness, dignity, and community cohesion. The event will feature excerpts from Join or Die, a new documentary that explores the decline in social capital, along with panel conversations featuring Rebecca Davis (co-director of Join or Die), Thea Sebastian (Executive Director, The Futures Institute), Hanna Love (Fellow at the Brookings Institution), Jake Harriman (More Perfect Union), the Economic Security Project, and more.
Modeling the solutions that this event will spotlight, the event will be a community potluck. Please bring something to drink or eat, and a willingness to meet new people!
